Kuvassa on PetiteKnitin Celeste Sweater.

Sweater season is here! Get handy tips for knitting patterned sweaters here.

Many of us associate sweaters with fall and winter, but early spring is also the perfect time to wear homemade sweaters!

During March, the weather has finally warmed up and now heavy winter jackets can be exchanged for lighter layering. Self-knitted sweaters are perfect for spring weather, as they are warm but breathable. Now is the perfect time to put on your knitting needles a lovely spring sweater that is suitable for both nature walks and the terrace!

I have compiled tips and ideas for knitting sweaters in this blog post. I also introduce my favorite sweater patterns that will bring joy long into spring.

Right from the start, I want to introduce my current favorite knit, the Celeste Sweater by PetiteKnit. The Celeste Sweater has a gorgeous cross-stitch pattern that is easy to remember. This pattern is also perfect for a beginner's first cross-stitch project, as in the cross-stitch section you only knit with two colors at a time and the yarn runs are short, so you don't need to tie them off separately on the wrong side of the piece. You can also start your first cross-stitch project by getting to know the theory of color dominance, for which you can find good videos on YouTube, among other places.

I knitted my own sweater with BC Garn Loch Lomond yarn in Graphite and Knitting for Olive Soft Silk Mohair yarn in the shade Licorice. For the embroidery section, I used my Lochlomond yarn and my regular mohair yarns. Celeste Sweater also works great as a regular yarn project! The end result was gorgeous and it is now also available as a sample in the store.

Tips for knitting spring sweaters:

  • Adjust the recipe according to the season by choosing more springy shades, such as muted pastels or natural colors. You can knit the sleeves shorter, which makes the sweaters more breathable.
  • By taking a picture of the yarns side by side and editing the image to black and white, you can check how well the colors you choose will stand out in the finished knit. This is especially recommended for patterned knits!
  • Choose yarns that don't itch and feel comfortable on bare skin.
  • Make use of leftover yarn by making stripes or other details for spring sweaters, which will also add lightness and color to the look of your knitwear!

Note! Always remember to start knitting with a test piece to ensure the correct fit.
