Free knitting pattern

In honor of Valentine's Day, we're publishing a pattern for felted mittens! The warm and cute Armi mittens are quick to knit, as they can be completed in one evening. The finished gloves are felted in the washing machine on a quick program (40 degrees) and shaped while still wet to fit the palms.

Accessories :

2 (2) 3 skeins of Sandnes Garn Borstet Alpaca yarn

Circular needles size 7 mm

Stitch markers

Auxiliary wire

Scissors and needle for finishing

Knitting pattern :

1. Start : Cast on 26 (30) 36 stitches with double yarn and divide them evenly on two needles.

2. Arm : Knit rib (k1, p1) 8 (9) 10 rows. Knit stockinette stitch (all knit) 10 (11) 14 rows.

3. Thumb wedge additions :

  • 1st row: K 1, make 1 left curved inc, place a stitch marker, knit until 1 st before the end of the row, place a stitch marker, make a right curved inc, K 1.
  • Row 2: Knit all stitches.

Repeat rows 1-2 a total of 4 (5) 6 times until there are 10 (12) 14 stitches between the stitch markers.

Place the stitches between the stitch markers on a thread. Cast on 2 (2) 4 new stitches and place a stitch marker between them. There are now 26 (30) 38 stitches in total.

4. Palm : Knit in stocking st until piece measures 26 (29) 32 cm, or long enough to cover fingers.

5. Tip decreases :

  • Row 1: K 1, 1 tr, knit until there are 3 sts left on the needle, K 2 together, K 1. Repeat on the other side.
  • Row 2: Knit all stitches. Repeat rows 1-2 until there are 8 (10) 10 stitches on needle. Fasten off by pulling yarn through stitches and tightening.

6. Thumb : Slip stitches from yarn over onto needles and pick up 2 (2) 4 stitches at the base of thumb. Place a stitch marker between the picked up stitches. 12 (14) 18 stitches in total. Work 8 (9) 10 rows in stocking st or until thumb is covered.

7. Thumb reductions :

  • 1st row: K 1, 1 tr, knit until 3 sts remain, K 2 tog, K 1.
  • Row 2: Knit all stitches, repeat until 4 (6) 6 stitches remain. Cast off by pulling yarn through stitches.

Finishing : Tie off the yarn ends and felt the mittens in the washing machine on a quick cycle (40 degrees), preferably with a couple of towels. Shape while damp to fit the palms.
